Michael Houghton

Michael Houghton is a Professor at the University of Alberta and Director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Applied Virology. He served as the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Virology from 2010 to 2018. He was recently named the 2020 Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine along with Harvey Alter and Charles Rice for the discovery of the hepatitis C (HCV) virus. Dr. Houghton has received numerous international prizes for his work including the 2000 Clinical Lasker Award and the Canadian CLF-CASL gold medal in 2012. His passion is the application of biomedical research to prevent disease.

Philip Dawson

Xinjie Cui

Xinjie Cui has over 25 years of experience in supporting policy decisions through data, analytics, and research. She has a deep understanding and knowledge in areas of data sharing and linkage, information privacy and governance, policy making processes, and research using health and non-health administrative data. She was instrumental in establishing the Child and Youth Data Lab that linked and analyzed data from multiple provincial ministries on over 20 health, education and social services programs. Currently as the Chief Analytics Officer of PolicyWise for Children & Families, she leads a team of scientists and data analysts to provide data analytics support to various clients from the public as well as the nonprofit sectors. Xinjie holds a Bachelor’s degree in medicine, a PhD in psychology and a MBA.

Fareeza Khurshed

Fareeza Khurshed is the Analytics Manager at Alberta Blue Cross, and the Chapter Lead for Data for Good in Edmonton Alberta. She graduated from the University of Alberta in 2005 and has 15 years of experience in Analytics, primarily in health care.

Faz Bashi

Faz Bashi, MD, has a background working in healthcare systems for underserved populations and basic science research in Microbiology, Immunology & Virology. He is lead venture investor at Portfolia FemTech Fund I & II, Chair of Angel Capital Association's Life Science sector group, and member of Life Science Angels. He invests in human and animal health and sciences.

Heather Chalmers

Heather Chalmers is President and CEO of GE Canada, and President of GE Healthcare Canada. She heads partnership initiatives with business and government leaders to reposition Canada’s economy for the future with a focus on climate change, digital, AI and Additive Manufacturing. Heather holds a Chemical Engineering degree from Queens University and an MBA from the Rotman School of Business. She serves on the boards of the C.D. Howe Institute, Ontario Brain Institute and St. Elizabeth Health Foundation. Heather is also a member of the Business Council of Canada and the Rotman School of Management’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Advisory Council.

Dale Sanders

Dale's healthcare career spans 24 years, 15 of those years in operational healthcare (Intermountain Healthcare, Northwestern University, Cayman Islands National Health System) and nine of those years as chief technology and product officer at Health Catalyst (NASDQ: HCAT). Prior to healthcare, he spent 14 years in the space and defense sector. He currently serves as an Executive Partner at Ardan Equity, a private equity firm specializing in healthcare-centric software and big data investments and acquisitions. He also serves as a Board member for HealthTree, a patient/physician community and data portal, pursuing a cure for multiple myeloma, ALS, and other rare diseases.

Ryan Van Wert

Ryan Van Wert, MD is a co-founder and CEO of Vynca. Dr. Van Wert is also a part-time Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University.

Doug Schweitzer

Minister Schweitzer was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta on April 16, 2019, as the MLA for Calgary-Elbow. A dedicated husband, father of 2 young girls and a long-serving community volunteer, Schweitzer has a strong record of public service, including previously raising funds for military families and serving as Vice-Chair of the Calgary Drug Treatment Court. He is passionate about restoring Alberta's promise – an Alberta in which, no matter where you came from, if you worked hard, you could succeed.

He brings a deep commitment to partner collaboration and community asset development to the intricate work of health care transformation through data and digital technologies.
