Bita Malekian founded Water Movement (WM), a leading Canadian non-profit that champions SDG 6. Her unique ability to bring together individuals from diverse disciplines has been critical to WM’s success. WM empowers Indigenous water treatment operators and adapts to their needs, providing an online platform for connecting, asking questions, and sharing lessons learned. WM has produced over 100 troubleshooting and maintenance videos, launched an advocacy campaign, and inaugurated National Indigenous Water Operator Day. While primarily focused on Canada, WM’s resources have supported operators in 30+ countries. Bita’s inclusive approach unites people from diverse backgrounds to come together and support the hidden heroes tackling Canada’s water crisis – the water treatment operators.
