Jennifer Koury

Jennifer Koury has more than 35 years of professional experience including C-suite leadership roles and international experience. Currently, Jennifer sits on a number of public and not-for-profit boards in Canada. In September 2017, Jennifer was appointed Co-Chair of the first public/private partnership for the UN Women Global Innovation Coalition for Change (GICC), a branch of the United Nations. Jennifer leads the New York-based GICC which is a group comprised of 25 global companies and institutions supporting and empowering women and girls in innovation. Jennifer is also Co-Chair for SHEInnovates Alberta, the first official pilot Chapter for UN Women.

Shannon Pestun

Shannon Pestun

Shannon Pestun is the Founder & CEO of Pestun Consulting Inc., a company that focuses on closing the entrepreneurial gender gap. Specializing in gender finance and financial inclusion, Shannon works in collaboration with all levels of government, industry, civil society and education to identify existing barriers and create systems that promote the enhancement of women's economic empowerment through entrepreneurship.

Dawn de Lima

Dawn de Lima is Chief Shared Services Officer at TransAlta Corporation. Dawn is the Chair of the Board for Junior Achievement Canada and co-chairs SHEInnovates Alberta, a not-for-profit organization that highlights women-led innovation in Alberta.

As Head of Global Business Strategy and Engagement at Facebook, Arielle leads a global business Marketing team that builds strategic partnerships and initiatives around social impact, business equality, trust and advocacy for over 140 million businesses world-wide. She has been named a Forbes 30 Under 30 in Marketing and Advertising, and is the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeeper, a representative on the United Nations Women Global Innovation Coalition for Change, Lead of Facebook Women New York, Founding Member of Chief, and Advisor for #BuiltByGirls. In this session, Arielle Gross-Samuels and Jennifer Koury will be providing insights from a global perspective on women in innovation and tech, the opportunities and challenges women face, and discuss ways in which we can all support women in innovation. Arielle Gross Samuels

Arielle Gross Samuels has held a number of roles at Facebook since 2013, and has achieved many personal and professional successes, including being named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in Marketing and Advertising, a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeeper, and serving as a representative on the United Nations Women Global Innovation Coalition for Change. She holds a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and founded the Arielle Gross Engineering Visionary Scholarship Fund at her alma mater to accelerate the diversity of engineering students.

It was created almost two years ago to recognize and support women that are innovating in Alberta by creating their own businesses or within their institutions. Shannon Bowen-Smed was born an entrepreneur. Her mother, Laverne Bowen, founded BOWEN Group in 1974 and Shannon grew up in the business. In 1996, Shannon became BOWEN Group's CEO. With more than 36 years of experience in the recruitment industry, she has guided BOWEN Group to its place as the leading Canadian recruitment and contractor management firm. Shannon serves on the board of the YWCA, Calgary Zoo, Calgary Economic Development and Women’s Executive Network, and was named a SHEInnovator by the United Nations earlier in 2020.

Sandi is involved with several ventures focused on supporting entrepreneurs as they navigate through start-up to scale-up. She is the founder of Crowd Capital, the fintech company behind DealPoint, a SaaS technology that securely automates the execution of private placements in a compliant and efficient manner. She leads InterGen Connect, a not-for-profit that matches expert retired and transitioning business talent with scaling companies exiting the start-up phase and she is the Managing Partner of InterGen Capital, a private venture fund that invests into innovation driven companies that are positioned to rapidly scale their businesses. Sandi is also the Chair of NACO, Canada's community of angels, incubators and accelerators.

Carrie Fanai is a biological engineer and innovation culture enthusiast. She is searching for the next big thing in bitumen processing at Suncor Energy Inc. where she is creating value as an intrapreneur. In her role as Program Lead for Bitumen Value Chain Optimization, Enterprise Technology, Carrie is bringing her knowledge of the innovation ecosystem and technology development to support the team’s transformational mandate. Her 3-dimensional career experience, including oil sands, technology accelerators, environmental government approvals, bio and agri-food product commercialization, business development and business ownership, provides a fresh perspective when it comes to tackling multifaceted problems.
